History of the Firm

Kendall Coffey and Robert Burlington started the firm in 1988 after ten years at Greenberg Traurig where they were partners in the litigation group.  Mr. Coffey left the firm to serve as United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida from 1993 through 1996 and later re-joined the firm.  The attorneys at Coffey Burlington are diverse and came to the firm from colleges and law schools across the United States including Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University, New York University, Duke University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan, University of Florida and University of Miami. Nearly sixty percent of our lawyers have worked as full-time law clerks for federal district and appellate court judges in the Sixth Circuit, Ninth Circuit, Tenth Circuit, Eleventh Circuit, and Southern District of Florida.  More than half of the firm’s lawyers are bilingual.
