
Paul J. Schwiep joined the firm more than ten years ago. His practice focuses on business and commercial litigation including class action disputes in federal and state court. He has successfully tried numerous commercial and tort disputes, including cases involving distribution agreements, class action insurance disputes and business and real estate contracts. He served as a member and then chair of Florida’s Board of Bar Examiners, which regulates admission to The Florida Bar. He currently serves on the board of the Florida Bar Foundation.
Mr. Schwiep has authored several major articles on various business litigation topics. His 1996 article regarding Florida’s economic loss rule was awarded the prestigious Barbara Sanders Award as the most outstanding article of the year. His analysis has been cited and relied upon by the Florida Supreme Court in a ground breaking opinion on the impact of the economic loss rule on commercial tort claims. Mr. Schwiep has been invited by Florida’s trial court judges to speak at their annual judicial conference on complex rules of evidence. He is an annual lecturer at the Florida Bar’s Commercial Litigation Seminar. After graduating from law school, Mr. Schwiep served as law clerk for the Honorable H. Theodore Milburn of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. In December 2007, he was selected as finalist for the Most Effective Lawyer award.
In addition to his trial and appellate practice, Mr. Schwiep serves on Miami-Dade County’s Citizens Independent Transportation Trust and he served as a member of the Charter Commission for the Village of Palmetto Bay.
