John E. Thornton, Jr.

John Thornton’s experiences include a diverse range of complex commercial litigation, investigations, and pro bono matters. He has counseled some of the United States’ largest health insurance providers, educational institutions, professional services firms, leading energy companies, mortgage loan servicers, and major financial institutions.

Mr. Thornton has represented clients in matters including, but not limited to, breach of contract, tortious interference, deceptive and unfair trade practices, collection practices, and ERISA. He has successfully argued dispositive motions, opposed injunctions, and won appeals before Florida’s Second and Fifth District Courts of Appeal. Mr. Thornton has taken and defended witness depositions, drafted discovery requests and responses, and notably obtained a dismissal of all charges before trial in a criminal defense matter. He has also conducted internal investigations for various companies.

Mr. Thornton's prior private practice experience includes working for Chicago-based and D.C./London-based global law firms. He completed a Public Interest Law Initiative (“PILI”) Graduate Fellowship at the Center for Conflict Resolution while studying for the Illinois bar exam, where he was certified as a mediator and mediated numerous cases in Illinois state court.
